St Ninian’s joined other environmentally aware churches when it switched onto solar electricity on 1st April, 2011.  A 5.4kW photovoltaic system was installed by Armada Solar.  This was made possible through a grant from the Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water Community Energy Grants Program.

It took more time than expected because of the difficulties with the style of roof but perseverance paid off and we are now feeding electricity into the grid.  As well as reducing our carbon footprint it is expected that what we produce will more than enough to cover the electricity we use.

No cause for complacency however.  We must think twice before turning on any electrical appliances.  The less we use the less our carbon footprint.
